Stone collecting

“Joy is the essence of success” – the label on my cup of tea

So today was quite a long and wonderful day, I’m totally just gonna go on a ramble and get it all out so I hope you have fun reading it lol. A glimpse into a day in the life of me.

I woke up quite hungover to a phone call answered by my friend, saying “yeah, 10 or 15 minutes, cool.” We unwrapped ourselves from each other, got up and put on some clothes, had a cigarette and some water and I walked back to mine. The cat was lying in the grass when I arrived, eager for his breakfast, the light was left on outside… I didn’t mean to be out all night, I had something important to do today, but I still felt happy.

A joint and some tea fixed me right up for my meeting about an upcoming trip to Estonia. I arrived at the place where the meeting was held, Turning Point. This keeps on turning up… the same phrase whenever something significant is going to happen. When I moved away from the city, when things get better. It’s some beautiful symbolism, it reassures me that I am walking the right path.

blossomin like a tree y’all

We all introduced each other, all the people who will be going on the trip, and all the people planning it. I knew a few faces here already, everyone seemed lovely. We chatted about what we’ll be doing, visiting rural areas figuring out how to get involved in local decision making, the themes we will be focusing on this year were decided by last years groups; mental health, tourism, environment and employability. I’m particularly interested in mental health and the environment. But all of them will be fascinating to learn about. The activities sounded amazing, I can’t believe it’s a free trip and that I got a space!!

My friend Fiona went last year, that’s how I found out about it. We met up on the last day of it last year. She had been away for a week visiting places in our region, camping under the stars, dancing at Celidhs, visiting art centres and a Buddhist monastery, and on the last day she helped out with a local festival. This was when we met up, she was on the badge making table and her brothers band played afterwards and we drank and danced by the river. I promised myself I would apply this year. Symbolically I wore the same badge I made that day to the meeting today.

We drank tea and bonded a bit… I definitely spoke about my cat during my introduction with no shame. The organiser Debs congratulated us on our applications and securing a place on the trip. We gave suggestions to a mental health group about a video appealing to young people encouraging them to reach out, and then the meeting was done and I went to find my dad.

We drove to the beach where I got a beer to sustain me and we collected stones. My dad was looking at the fossils on them all, whereas I was looking for ones I could paint. The fossils were fascinating… and the patterns quite beautiful. Strange to think that a wee sea shell or sea creature could have made those designs, they were artists in themselves.

windswept beachy look

My dad took some photos of the sea (and attempted to be sneaky taking some of me) as I trawled through the beach, collecting more stones than was probably reasonable. By the end of the walk I was hugging them like they were to be my newborn child. And couldn’t resist picking some seashells to add to my already massive collection, as well as a wee tiny dead crab I called crab-man, I brought him home and now he’s my buddy.

Anyway now I’m back home, sufficiently supplied with weed and comfort, and ready to share a poem for today. It’s a bit roughly done (again with the lack of editing, silly abbie) but I had fun writing it. My thoughts tend to go to rivers and it’s been quite hot lately here… I was thinking about how amazing it would be if a river just followed you around everywhere so you could swim whenever you wanted, I’ve had this thought a fair few times but this time got inspired to write a poem about it. I find it quite amusing really…. I hope you do too, enjoy! 🙂

sun is glaring
heat is swelling
but its ok
my pocket sized river
will take me away

i can disappear
into the depth of sapphire jewels
cool down in the flow
and dip back out again
to this reality we call home

to seek refuge in your perfect world
what a beauty it would be
when troubles are getting heavy
just run away, flee

a safe space in a pocket
a wonderous spontaneous submersion
cool down by the rocks and the water
bring a friend filled with laughter

it follows me everywhere
i never want to leave
my pocket sized river

never leave me river ❤

Day #2 – Crossing Thresholds

So I have decided I want to make at least one post a day. I have not a lot of time so I’m just gonna do this quick.

This is a poem which was written when me and my ex were having troubles. I love him still as I do a lot of people, but it was clearly not meant to be. Karmic partners who were meant to teach each other lessons, and help each other grow, then move on. He will always have a place in my heart… but at this time I was annoyed and frustrated, so I wrote a poem to try and get out some of these negative energies.

It’s nothing special but it’s deeply personal to me and by sharing it I’m expressing myself and having a voice. Hope any readers out there enjoy!

I want him to stay and go
I want him in our bubble when there’s no world outside
When we’re happy and laughing
And my anxious thoughts are lessoned

Not him as a spiteful little child
And me a spiteful little child
Bickering about who is more annoying
Tugging each others hair
And spitting out the dummy
Running home and complaining to mum
Because life isn’t always fair

I dont want him in this complicated messiness that I always get myself into
A hidden web of deceit
That I’m not willing to face

I want him to be happy
I want me to be happy
I dont want it to be the end
But if its something I have to do
I have to do it

I need to be alone
I’ve never been alone
Always dependant
I want to be free and unmessy and to do whatever I want
Maybe its selfish
Maybe I need selfish

I want to be me
I dont care what anyone else thinks of me
I need to be me
Not everyones image of me
I need to love myself
Keep your fucking pity.

Alright, off to my next endeavour now. Thanks for reading!

the art of being detached

an outing in the hills

“One of the most profound things to discover in a relationship is the art of ‘detaching with love’.”

— Unknown

Therefore, I will share another poem. Written about my attitude towards life and guilt that I often feel because of it. I’ve decided to fuck guilt. All I want is to be free and guilt just holds you back.

I have allowed myself to become detached,
I love many people
But whether they come and go in my life is their choice
It’s beautiful in a way
Freeing in so many
But I wonder if I should warn people?
I have this attitude towards others as well as myself
Whether I come and go is my choice
And my choice is fickle and changeable
Maybe I am a lesson to people
No one is stable
Especially not me
Recklessly abandoning everything once I get bored
I wonder how much I hurt people.
I feel rejection sometimes
I used to feel it a lot
But now see no point in feeding it
I don’t see why others do
Yet I do
I’m a walking contradiction
I love and hate it
And kindness is not niceness

this is me

Hey,

I’m Abbie, creativity is my jam. I wanted a space where I could express myself and share with the world myself and my innermost thoughts, so I guess this is it!

Currently living in Scotland, with no job and on health benefits, recovering from years of mental illness and self abuse. Things are really getting back on track for me now.

Being creative has been so healing, I hope I can inspire people to explore it and let go of their expectations. Everyone is so unique and amazing, everyone has something different to offer. And it is both beautiful and freeing when you explore yourself and find out who you really are.

having fun exploring at a local loch

At the moment I spend most of my days in the sun (yay for summer!) soaking up that lovely Vitamin D, spending time going to local community arts groups, drinking and smoking lots of weed with friends and lovers and enjoying my life for the first time in longer than I can remember.

Being in nature soothes me, I am obsessed with rivers in particular (and you will probably notice this in my writing). Something about the flow of life mesmerises me and guides me. Also I have a cute cat.

cute wee guy

So I’m gonna share a poem I wrote while hungover this morning. Someone told me it felt like I cast a spell on them and I just went with it in my writing.

There’s many that I’ve written but refrained from sharing for various reasons, so expect them to pop up some day soon too. I’m gonna be fearless here.

I rarely come up with names for poems, I don’t like to give anything away sometimes, and guess it just doesn’t feel right other times so I usually just jump right in….

im a spell
cast on you
when excitement boils
and passion overflows

an enchantment
you can never break
succumb to my sorcery
i’ll show you my way

a love potion
lay with me
but be warned
i might steal your heart
and abandon it in the light of day

Yeah… so that’s that. I might change it, we’ll see. I’ve never been good at editing things, I lack the patience for it and by the time it’s done usually am bored of the poem or piece of writing.

Anyway, not sure what I’ll post next. I enjoy art but am not terribly good at it, writing, taking photographs (but I always lose my phone), writing about my life and experiences. Maybe I’ll even post some music.

Alright that’s me done now. Go me!!

Hope people enjoyed it, let me know what you think if you think anything at all… or don’t. I’m not the boss of you.
